Polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE, is a synthetic coating material, known today as Teflon. PTFE are food grade coatings. A PTFE coating has many benefits, which include:

* adheres to many surfaces, such as steel, steel alloys, aluminum, brass, magnesium, glass, fiberglass, plastics, and some rubber materials
* it is a non-stick coating
* The lowest coefficient of friction of any known solid material
* repels both water and oils
* heat resistant at temperatures as high as 500 degrees Fahrenheit and can withstand temperatures as low as -450 degrees Fahrenheit
* has great electrical strength and properties
* resistant to a large number of chemicals

Industries That Use PTFE

PTFE was accidentally invented in the late 1930s, and it was highly used in WWII to keep radioactive materials from escaping the facility that was secretly creating the atomic bomb. Polytetrafluoroethylene was also used for pipe fittings to make them leak proof and now, years later, it is sitting on top of our stoves in the form of a coating for pots and pans. Wherever there is an environment that involves slipping and mobility in daily usage, PFTE coating is very favorably used:

* Electrical – PTFE is a great insulator available in varying grades. It is often used for wire and cable wraps, high voltage encapsulation devices, as well as to separate conductive surfaces in capacitors.
* Chemical – PTFE is vastly used in petrochemical processing environments, like gaskets, vessel linings, pump interiors, washers, seals, rings, spacers, dip tubes and well-drilling parts. PTFE is not affected by acids, caustic chemicals, and other toxic or harsh environments.
* Food/Beverage/Pharmaceutical – The FDA approved using PTFE in these industries, plus cosmetics industries. Virgin PTFE film and sheets are an inert component that has a non-toxic sliding surface that does not allow harmful microbes to grow.
* Laboratory – PTFE coating in piping, tubing, and certain lab products, is inert and is resistant to many chemicals.

A PTFE coating material does not melt during manufacturing, and it is easily machined using mechanical, woodworking and stamping equipment/tooling. For certain surfaces, PTFE is blended with other fillers to enhance properties of glass fiber, glass bead, carbon, graphite, bronze and more.

Coating Services

Additional coating services by top suppliers include:

* Non-Stick Coating – Specialized Teflon coatings are formulated to coat EPS and EPP molds daily. Coating services are used for non-stick surfaces and non-stick coatings for many different shapes and sized applications.
* Powder Coatings – Powder coatings is a baked on finish that is more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wear that is stronger than many other finishes. Powder coatings are available in a large selection of colors and finishes, such as antique, metallic, metal flake, holographic, pearl and wrinkle, along with many others, including a no-mark finish.
* Food Grade Coatings – Coating services offer several different mold coatings for high-quality food grade industries for EPS, EPP, and cheese.
* Anti-Corrosion Coatings – All coatings are protective in nature, but there are some that have special added properties for high-performance needs, including electrically non-conductive insulators. These include coatings that are resistant to chemicals, heat, abrasion, and anti-corrosive, such as fittings, valves, and insulators.
* Conductive and Non-Conductive Coatings – This involves stamping and small metal parts: springs, wire, CNC parts, screw machine parts, fasteners, automotive and military specs, anti-corrosion and decorative lacquer coatings.
* Traction Release Paper Converting Coatings – Paper converting machinery coatings for rollers, guides, blades/holders, ratchet gears, reservoirs, and knives.
* Dry and Solid Film Lubricating Coatings A variety of metal, plastic, and rubber parts can be coated with high-quality film, such as nuts, bolts, silicone diaphragms, pistons, anchor bolts and valves.
