It’s hot outside and your office employees are having a difficult time working without air conditioning. You have contacted commercial refrigeration professionals and they completely checked out your cooling system, and there is bad news. Your Trane AC compressor is the problem and they give you several options. What should you do and what is the right decision? Let’s explore this issue in depth to help you find an answer.

Option A: Replace the Entire Cooling System

Naturally, the best option would be to install a new AC system. New units are very energy efficient and can save a lot of money. However, you may not have the funds for this option as it can be expensive. Plus, other things could be affecting your cooling costs (windows, insulation, etc.) and your new system may have to work very hard, costing you more than you think.

Option B: New Compressor

Installing a new Trane AC compressor will solve your problem. It will run perfectly for a long time and serve your business well. However, the cost of a new compressor can be significant. In fact, some businesses feel it is more cost effective to replace the entire unit than pay for a brand new compressor.

Option C: Used Compressor

This is by far the cheapest option, but cheapest is not always best. If you install a used compressor you have no idea what kind of condition it is in. It could run fine for 6 days or 6 years. If you want to gamble with your business and take chances, this may be a good choice.

Option C: Rebuilt Compressor

A rebuilt Trane compressor is a better option than buying used. However, many rebuilt compressors have very few new parts. In other words, they only fix what is wrong and other components could have significant wear and tear. In fact, you may not get as much service from your used compressor as you think.

Option D: Remanufactured Compressor

A remanufactured Trane compressor could be the best choice and for several reasons. First, when you go with a reputable remanufacturer you receive a compressor in excellent condition. The remanufacturing process is much more complete and thorough than the rebuilding process.

Your remanufactured compressor has been completely disassembled and inspected. All major components are replaced with new parts. This includes bearings, seals and valves. Everything is carefully inspected for wear or cracks and this includes the cylinder walls. The compressor unit is reassembled and then tested under load conditions. You can be assured your Trane AC compressor will work fine as soon as it is installed and the best companies provide you with a one year warranty.
