With more and more people leaving small towns and moving to large cities, the population in the cultural hubs is rapidly increasing. This is exacerbated by the number of young Millennials who are moving out on their own for the first time and tend to flock to cities more than any other generation. So, when it comes to city life, should you get an apartment in the city or a house in the suburbs and commute?
Traffic
First, consider the traffic. Depending on the size, geographically speaking, of your city, you may be able to get by just fine without a car or truck if you live downtown. In fact, after parking, insurance, gas, and tax it is often easier and cheaper not to own a car in a major city.
If you live in the suburbs, on the other hand, you will not have a choice, a car is a must. In this case, you can expect to spend a good amount of your time sitting in traffic both in the morning going to work and in the evening going home. Depending on the population of your city and the distance of your commute, this could be upwards of two hours each way. This is four hours a day. You must decide if living in the suburbs is worth that much time and extra expense.
Parking
Going back to transportation, parking in large cities is often a nightmare, especially for those not already familiar with the city. In these cases, walking can be the easier option if you live downtown. If you commute, then expect to pay up to several hundred dollars a month for parking alone.
Night Life
For this one, there is no competition if you want to enjoy your cities night life then the only way to take full advantage of it is to live in the city. Getting to and from the entertainment district can be challenging once you have had a few too many drinks.
If you plan to work in a large city, you will either need to live downtown or in a suburb and commute. If the commute and parking are too much for you, then there are plenty of Hollywood CA apartments for rent that will let you enjoy all the city has to offer.
