Whether you’re leaving the dorm you’ve lived in since starting college, or you’re moving from home to an apartment, you’ll likely experience a refreshing start. There’s more room to roam, and you’ll have more freedom with off-campus housing. Before turning the key in the door, there are some things that you can do to make the process a bit easier.
Sharing Your Home
If you decide to share off-campus housing at Penn State University with someone else, you must make sure the person is compatible and trustworthy. Consider an interview process where you ask questions about the person’s habits and what they like to do, and what kind of rules they think should be in place. You want to try to find someone who shares the same interests so that it’s a bit easier to live together.
Perform Research
Unless you have already researched the first apartment that you look at, you should consider all of the off-campus housing at Penn State University that’s available before settling on your final selection. Take a tour of a unit that’s available, talk to some of the people who live on the property, and read reviews posted online so that you have as much information as possible when it comes to making a final decision.
Safety
You want to be as safe as possible while living in your home, so check all the locks on the doors and windows before moving. Find out if there is a security guard as well. You should also avoid living on the first floor if at all possible.
