Southern Maryland is famous for so many of its beautiful scenic views, such as the Potomac River, the Patuxent river and the amazing wildflower meadows that color the countryside. The beauty of the tall thick woods that spring up from the distant landscape can take ones breath away and in the fall, the colors are like an angelic spectrum of gold, yellows, greens, reds and browns. Because of its positioning, Maryland also benefits from the fossil beaches, the vintage lighthouses and waterfront villages that adorn the southern Maryland coastline. If this sounds more like a tourist information leaflet than a tour it’s because there is so much to see and do in southern Maryland that a short trip will not be nearly enough.

Maryland was colonized by the Europeans and the British, somewhere around 1630 through 1634, when they arrived on the eastern coast in their droves. Because of the significant number of people wanting to live in that surrounding area it was eventually built as a permanent colony, rather than a temporary stop-gap. The 1st Baron Baltimore, George Culvert named the area as Maryland, after Jesus’ mother. The state capitol was also named Baltimore, after Culvert. Maryland declared its ratification of the U.S. Constitution in 1776, during the American Revolution, but while it still remained a ‘slave state’ Maryland was very liberal in its views and most slaves were already freed by 1860, with Baltimore growing into one of the largest economic states in the Union.

Care in the Community

Owing to its quietude and beauty, Maryland is a very popular state for retirement, convalescence and care, for those who need it. A nursing home in southern Maryland, MD, will offer skilled nursing facilities, rest and intermediate care for those in need, or something either temporary or permanent, for special cases. Residents of nursing homes can include adults, the elderly or people who have spent a long spell in hospital and need to convalesce. The type of nursing home that might suit each individual will be reliant upon the exact nature of care they require, but many homes have landscaped gardens, parks or beaches very close by so that those who are able can spend time in the fresh air and beautiful countryside surroundings.
