Choosing to have breast implants is a big decision. One of the biggest decisions when considering breast implants in Dallas is deciding which type of implant to get.
Most women will opt for the silicone implants because silicone implants tend to look and feel more natural than the saline implants. Also, silicone implants are less likely to show wrinkles or folds in thinner women.
Implant Material Type
Silicone implants were banned in 1994 by the FDA. However, in 2006, the FDA lifted the ban which made them available to women for breast augmentation. There are two types of silicone implants: silicone gel and cohesive silicone gel.
The cohesive silicone gel, or “gummy bear,” is only available under supervised clinical trials. They are not approved for use by the general public.
Traditional silicone gel implants are soft and pliable. These implants look and feel like natural breasts.
Saline implants have never been banned by the FDA. These implants are made with a silicone shell and filled with saline.
Shapes
Because women’s breast comes in all sizes and shapes, breast implants in Dallas are also available in different shapes. The best shape for you depends on your body type, the amount of breast tissue in the patient, and the size of the implants.
Round breast implants are the most common type used. A round implant is shaped like a flattened sphere. Round implants are a good choice for women who want fullness in the upper part of the breast.
Teardrop shaped implants are contoured implants. These implants create a more sloping contour for the breasts. These implants are not as full as the round implants.
The Procedure
The procedure for inserting breast implants typically takes one to two hours. Patients are given a general anesthetic prior to surgery. The surgeon will usually insert the implants from an incision made under the breast or under the arms.
