When a person is arrested and charged with a federal crime, they’re going to need to get one of the Federal Bail Bonds in Clayton County to get out of jail. This is similar to most standard bail bonds, but there are a few differences. Below is the information a person must know before they apply for a federal bail bond for a friend or family member.

A bail bond works in about the same way as a state or county bail bond. A friend or family member will need to speak with a bondsman about obtaining the bond. They will need to agree to the terms and pay a percentage of the full bail amount or give the bondsman collateral to cover the full bail amount. Once the process is completed, the arrested person will be released from jail and must follow all of the terms of the bond.

The difference with a regular bail bond is the process and the percentage that needs to be paid. With Federal Bail Bonds in Clayton County, the person must go through a hearing before the bond can be processed. This is to make sure they have sufficient collateral and that the money or collateral used to secure the bond wasn’t obtained illegally. If they elect to pay a percentage of the bond, it’s typically 15% instead of the 10% it is for other bail bonds. There may also be additional restrictions placed on the arrested person while they are out on bond that they wouldn’t have with a regular bond. These differences are due to the severity of the crime and the amount of risk a bondsman takes when they secure a federal bail bond.

Not every bondsman is able to secure a federal bail bond for their client. They must be familiar with the process and understand exactly what needs to be done through the hearings so the person can obtain a bond and will not be required to remain in jail.
