Most people have heard about the harmful effects that carbon dioxide has on the planet. In an attempt to help the environment, many communities have taken to planting trees and other foliage. However, there are other things that can be done as well. One of these is carbon sequestration. There are plenty of reasons why this is so.

Carbon Density

The longer that a forest exists, the more carbon it can collect. Not only do the leaves take in carbon, but the soil does as well as everything that remains on the floor of the forest such as grasses.

Purifies

A single tree can absorb as much as 10 lbs of air pollution. From this, it provides enough clean oxygen to support two people. This makes it a very efficient way to scrub away the toxic chemicals that exist in the atmosphere.

Controls Flooding

Erosion is one of the things that can severely damage any landscape. The more trees that are in any given area, the more protection from this debacle is afforded the land. This makes it a very smart idea to plant more trees in addition to the already acknowledged benefit of carbon sequestration.

Resource Protection

There are many other protections that trees offer that most people do not think about. For instance, they are partially responsible for helping to keep berries, flowers, bees, and mushrooms that grow in the wild, as well as plants used for medicinal purposes safe from harm.
