How It Works
The first step of the program is to go through the database and find any duplicate records. For example, you may have a customer named John Smith, but one time they called in, you created a record for John R. Smith. Now, you have two records in your system for the same person. If you choose automatic mailings, you’ll be sending him mail twice every time. Likewise, the same is true if you updated the address for Mr. Smith, but chose to create a new record instead of finding the original. The software will find those and notify you.
Then, you’ll be able to consolidate all those duplicate records, merging them together into one entry once more. Finally, the software will delete all the other records, purging them from the system.

Depending on the program you choose, you may be allowed to search for people using gender, telephone numbers or SSN. Plus, it will be much easier to use than a human going through each entry in the database.
