Secondary Schools
Teachers must maintain a good level of discipline to ensure everything is kept under control in a Physics laboratory which is essential whilst carrying out practical activities during lessons. Schools will be impressed if you are able to offer lunchtime and after school activities and clubs around your subject to enhance the curriculum and engage with pupils who are keen to learn more about Physics. Keeping up to date with advancements in your subject area is critical, and undertaking pastoral duties is a necessity. Other day-to-day duties you can expect in a secondary school environment include supervising teaching assistants and laboratory technicians, giving appropriate feedback, and researching new topic areas.
SEN pupils
There will be a percentage of pupils within every class at Secondary level who have some form of SEN. These pupils will require some additional support from you as their teacher but also potentially from a designated teaching assistant, depending on the type of SEN. You may need to plan lessons accordingly and use additional resources to capture their imagination. Schools with a high percentage of SEN pupils will be interested to hear of any experience you may have had in the past of working with SEN either within mainstream or SEN schools.
