Fluorescent lighting has been successful in replacing the traditional incandescent light bulbs and fixtures. Since so many fluorescent lamps are installed in the home, there is a need for lamp socket replacement parts.

There are two main components of fluorescent lamps: the ballast and the tube.

The ballast is used to regulate the amount of current that goes into the lamp. It provides the correct amount of wattages for the lamp to start up. Without a ballast, the lamp would rapidly heat up and could overheat and catch on fire. Maintaining the current in fluorescent lights is an important function for the long life of the device.

The tube is filled with inert gas, typically argon but sometimes neon. This may include a small amount of mercury vapor too. An electrical current comes in through the ballast and excites the gas in the tube which causes the lamp to glow. In all fluorescent bulbs, the phosphor coating is a key part of the design. The glow comes from the coating.

Because of the way fluorescent lights work, they do not use as much electricity as incandescent lights. The lamps are highly efficient and produce less heat than incandescent bulbs. They are high performance, environmentally friendly, use less mercury, and help reduce pollutants by being TCLP compliant.

Both the ballast and the tubes can be easily replaced. Because the tubes are filled with gas, they are classified as hazardous material. Replacing broken lamp parts is quick and easy.

These lights come in many shapes and sizes with the CFL being the most popular.

Fluorescent lights can brighten a space easily and quickly. They are available in various lengths and diameters and have a significantly longer lifespan than incandescent lamps and since they are so popular lamp socket replacement parts are immediately available.
