Maytag is one of the biggest brands in appliances, and for good reason: It’s associated with high-quality machines that do their jobs well and last a long time. Therefore, it’s smart to shop Maytag appliances when you’re thinking of upgrading your home.
The Maytag dishwasher line one of the company’s well-known offerings, but clothes washers were actually its first products and remain a big pillar of the company. It was founded back in 1893 as the Maytag Washing Machine Company, but dropped the specifics within just a few years to become simply “Maytag.” This part of the name is from its founder, Frederick Maytag.
In 1946, Maytag expanded to include ranges and refrigerators. Back then, these appliances were made by different companies and simply branded with the more famous name. By 1960, however, it had stopped selling these appliances, but soon began selling its own kitchen disposals. Even so, it wasn’t until it bought out Magic Chef that it hit kitchens in full force.
Recent times have seen the company make several acquisitions, including that of Amana and also of the big pizza-oven maker G.S. Blodgett Corporation. Maytag was interested in Blodgett because of the Turbo Chef line that was in development at the time. These acquisitions position Maytag as much more than a manufacturer of washers and dryers.
Now, it may come as a surprise to learn that Maytag was itself bought out. The Whirlpool corporation took over the conglomerate after it suffered some problems with one of its flagship lines, and now, Whirlpool designs are used for the Maytag brand. Since Whirlpool’s name is also well-known, this shouldn’t pose a problem when you shop Maytag appliances at Herb Snow and Son or another Maytag distributor.
Even though both Maytag and Whirlpool started out as washing machine manufacturers, you can now find both names on a wide variety of major appliances. Refrigerators, stoves, and dishwashers are all made by the company and come with strong warranties indicating that they’ll be good for years of use. Just choose the specific models that will best meet your needs to ensure complete satisfaction, and you should be all set.
