If you are holding an event for your employees for the first time and you want that talk – and all the talks that follow – to be meaningful for them, selecting the right speaker is key. Check out the follow considerations before you pick one:
Technical Know-How
Do you want the event to focus on certain subjects or issues? Then pick a motivational speaker with years of experience in that field. Look for someone whose training and background are a match for the subject or issue that you want to tackle.
Audience Diversity
Pick speakers from different backgrounds, sexual orientation, religion, race, and gender. If you want to appeal to a diverse audience, then a speaker or speakers who represent those different social sectors. Lack of diversity in speakers is a huge problem. Address that issue with your choice of speakers.
Relevance
You need a speaker who is relevant to your audience. While it is easy to give the speaker a topic you want them to focus on, it is worth doing your homework to find someone who knows how to deliver key and impactful takeaways. It is also a good idea to find a presenter that uses humor or a light-hearted approach to increase engagement.
Budget
Come up with a budget. Make sure the budget is reasonable. Consider all the possible costs that may be associated with the presentation. For example, aside from the fee, do you give the speaker a token of appreciation or gratitude? What about travel expenses, food and accommodation?
Availability
Part of organizing an event is finding and booking a speaker. The rule of thumb is the earlier you book, the better. Many top speakers are booked up months and – in some cases – years in advance.
