The same is true for refrigerators, as they will shrink-wrap it so it stays shut, and the cord stays close by, but they will not remove the shelves or food from inside.
Unless otherwise asked, you should allow the packers to put items in properly, though many packers will allow you to handle your clothing, undergarments and shoes if you wish. In most cases, large items should have everything removed first. For example, dressers should have clothing removed, and china cabinets should have the china removed and packed separately.
